? It’s a love affair, it’s a state of mind, it’s an attitude that those who love the Lady called Florida understand. It’s a love it or leave it sort of thing. It’s a spirit that you get or you don’t and if we need to explain it to you, you don’t.
When you drive south of the Florida-Georgia line, the sky is bluer, the air is thicker and life beats to a different rhythm. It’s a tropical beat. This place we love is hot, muggy, got skeeters, gators, lizards, gopher, pelicans, sea gulls, swamps, lakes, rivers, springs, an ocean, a gulf, intracoastals, more fish than can be named, coral reefs, shipwrecks, blue skies, water in every color of blue that God created, thunderstorms that will make you talk to your Maker, techni-color sunsets that can touch the hardest heart.
Her plants are tropical, they are big, green, uncontrolled beings that are not meant to be trimmed and tamed like an English garden. Florida is color! Every color! Every vivid color! Color is life! Florida is life! The heat creates life. The water creates life.
Life comes in unlimited forms, but, it’s all part of the tapestry that makes Florida the magical place that it is. To tame her is to destroy her. Her beauty rises like steam from the earth and should be admired in it’s raw form.
Some of us have been here for generations and know that no matter where we go Florida will always be home. Don’t mistake our unhurried speech for lack of intelligence. Don’t mistake our quiet response for weakness. Don’t think because we wear flip flops, we don’t own shoes. Life is about choices.
Some people were born to this Tropical Lady, some crossed the state line and fell in love, some people come for a brief visit to the land of magic and never see the real Florida, but, those who dare to slow down and let her invite them in, are seduced by pura florida.
