Florida Hospital Pediatric Oncology

Nobody wants to think that children get cancer, but, they do. At Florida Hospital for Children, they have gathered a team of medical professionals of the highest caliber that are there solely to serve children with blood disorders and cancer, families in Florida no longer have to travel across the country to get top quality, comprehensive care. They have all the technology, treatments and know-how to meet a child’s needs right here in Central Florida. Care is given in an environment where every child is special and parents are supported to enable them to be there for their children.

 

Camp Boggy Creek

Camp Boggy Creek is a place of dreams, joy and possibilities. It was founded in 1996 by Paul Newman and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, with the simple premise that every child, no matter what their illness, could experience the fun of camp life just like any other child. It is a year-round camp for seriously ill children & offers week long summer sessions for the children and family retreat weekends for the whole family.  There is no charge to the children or families who come to Boggy Creek.  It is solely supported by contributions and donations from individuals, corporations and foundations. 

 

Clean the World Foundation

Clean the World was founded in 2009 by Shawn Seipler, the Vice President of Sales & Marketing for an e-commerce technology company, he traveled several times per week.  The idea for soap recycling came after he learned that the barely used bars of hotel soap he left behind each morning ended up in a landfill. That led to Clean the World, a Florida not-for-profit corporation. Their mission is to: 1. Collect and recycle soap and hygiene products discarded every day by the hospitality industry and other sectors that generate environmental waste. 2. Through the distribution of these and other donated products to impoverished people, to prevent millions of hygiene-related deaths each year, reduce the morbidity rate for hygiene-related illnesses, and encourage vigorous childhood development.

 

Second Harvest Food Bank

It is a private, nonprofit organization that collects, stores & distributes donated food to more that 500 feeding partners in 6 Central Florida counties: Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole & Volusia. Last year, the food bank distributed nearly 64 million pounds of grocery products the equivalent of more than 53 million meals. They partner with food pantries, soup kitchens, women’s shelters, senior centers, day care centers & Kids Cafes. They also transform dozens of lives directly every year through a culinary training program that enables economically-challenged adults to find job placement in jobs that allow them to move towards self-sufficient lives.

 

Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (via Sanctuary Friends)

Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary is one of 15 marine protected areas that make up the National Marine Sanctuary System, Administered by NOAA, a federal agency, and jointly managed with the State of Florida, Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary protects 2,900 square nautical miles of waters surrounding the Florida Keys from south of Miami westward to encompass the Dry Tortugas, excluding Dry Tortugas National Park. The shoreward boundary of the sanctuary is the mean high-water mark, essentially meaning that once you set foot in the Keys waters, you have entered the sanctuary.

 

Surfrider Foundation/Florida

The mission of Surfrider Foundation is the protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves and beaches through a powerful  network. Their initiatives include: Clean Water: to protect and restore coastal water quality from the ridges, through our watersheds and out to the nearshore ocean, oceans where we surf, swim and recreate. Beach Access: to promote the right of low-impact, free and open access to the world’s waves and beaches for all people. Beach Preservation: to protect and preserve healthy beaches that are important coastal ecosystems and recreational areas.

 

A Gift for Teaching

A Gift for Teaching is Central Florida’s primary provider of free school supplies to teachers for their students in need. Their mission is to improve public education by providing resources and surplus materials free to teachers for their students in need.  Their vision is to ensure that every child has the tools and experiences needed to succeed in  school and in life.

 

Kids Rock The Nation

Kids Rock the Nation, Inc. is an organization with the goal to build self-esteem in the children by gifting them with a guitar, lessons that will expose them to the focus and disciplines required to play and the camaraderie and joy found in our music community. Kids Rock the Nation, Inc., led by Anthony Wild of Palm Coast, promotes self-esteem through musical performance by recognizing and rewarding potential musical talent in children ages nine to sixteen years old. Through an application process, recipients are chosen who demonstrate desire to learn and the motivation to succeed. Chosen applicants receive a guitar, on-going mentoring from professional musicians and opportunities to perform.
